Dropping our Standards (Just A Little)

Having travelled Business Class all year, when we came back from Sofia I was awarded (or paid over the odds for - whichever way you like to look at it) the BA Silver status which now gives me the ability to reserve seats, without charge, at the time of booking and, more importantly, access to lounges worldwide irrespective of what class we are travelling in.  We've always said we'd happily travel economy class for European flights so the last few we've done were a complete luxury and to take my mind off longer trips - now it's time to try some on a less extravagant basis.

There are still night-time closures on the M20 so we booked to stay at the Mercure Heathrow Hotel and to park the car at Purple Parking - both of these choices are part of me not paying unnecessarily for services.

Overnight parking at the Mercure is only £5 if we park for less than 10 hours, so with a 0400 start we planned to arrive about 1900.  Once we found the place we then tested out the route to the car park for the following morning.  It was a bit of a trek but once we worked out where we could do a legal U-turn, the trip in the morning would be easy.

The room was absolutely fine, comfortable bed and certainly as good as Premier Inn.
